How long does it take to get a real estate license?

Updated: Jun 9

A property license can be earned at a fraction of the cost and in much less time than it takes to earn a traditional diploma.

We will look at the following factors:

Take the 75-hour NYS course (including final examination): 2 weeks.

If you take the 75-hour online course, you can fill it out in less than 2 weeks.

Take a state examination: 2 weeks.

Based on the availability of your nearest place of examination, you should be able to reserve a seat within 2 weeks.

Please note that you can plan (and write) your government exam while you complete the 75-hour course. This will allow you to gain time during the licensing process.

Submit your license request for DOS approval: 2 weeks.

You can apply for a license on the same day you receive your pass grade for the state exam.

In this case, the DOS will need up to 2 weeks to approve your application and mail your license to your sponsoring broker.

Once you have successfully completed your license examination, you are officially a real estate agent. You can start your employment as a real estate agent immediately. The documents will be mailed to you however you may also receive the information by email.

According to the license application form you submitted prior to the review, your license may be associated with the brokerage of your choice, so you can begin immediately.

Once this occurs, you may be well on your way towards a lucrative career in real estate.
